THÈMES DE RECHERCHE

Mathieu Bouchard est professeur adjoint au département des sciences du bois et de la forêt de l’Université Laval. Titulaire d’un doctorat en sciences de l’environnement de l’UQÀM, il a travaillé douze ans au Gouvernement du Québec, dont 9 ans à titre de chercheur scientifique en écologie forestière, avant de se joindre au département des sciences du bois et de la forêt de l'Université Laval. Ses travaux de recherche s’inscrivent autour de trois axes. Le premier axe porte sur l’étude des perturbations naturelles qui affectent les forêts québécoises, en particulier les feux et les épidémies d’insectes, et sur l’influence probable des changements climatiques sur ces perturbations. Le second axe porte sur l’effet des coupes forestières sur la composition et la biodiversité des forêts. Le troisième axe touche plus particulièrement le développement de stratégies d’aménagement forestier visant à assurer un approvisionnement à long terme en bois pour les industries de transformation, tout en respectant les attentes de la population en lien avec la conservation des écosystèmes forestiers.
