Résumé

Poor air quality has increasingly been a result to the rapid growth of heavy and automobile industry in Beijing. China's top environmental goal was to improve air quality in Beijing for the 2008 Summer Olympics. This paper systematically summarizes countermeasures and efforts that Beijing made to improve air quality, especially in adjusting energy structure, controlling automobile pollution, removing and reorganizing industries, and dust control. Overall energy conservation and pollution reduction have been achieved as a result of these measures. Beijing's successful air pollution control program is considered as a model for the country at large. © 2014 WIT Press.
