Résumé

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects, on streamflow and sediment discharge, of roads and stream crossings build in accordance with regulations. Roads and their crossings are known to be the major source of sediment input into streams due to harvesting activities. They also may contribute to modify stormflow during forest activities. Streamflow has been measured on four small basins ranging from 10 to 50 ha for two seasons (1999-2000) before and one season (2001) after road construction. Sediments were also collected during the same periods in order to measure a possible road effect. Total stormflow has been modified on all basins and quickflow volumes on two of the four basins. Peak flow has been changed only on one basin, the larger one that collects water from two small headwater streams. The effect of the road is regulated by the rainfall magnitude. In general during small events, stormflow decreased and were unchanged during larger events. Total sediment discharge has been unchanged on the basins and suspended sediments concentration were not significantly changed after road construction. From these results we concluded that the road had a negligible effect on stream hydrology and sedimentology.
